About the role

The Aftercare Assistant is responsible for ensuring student safety and maintaining an organized, engaging environment for students after school hours. They must follow safety guidelines, structure daily activities, and build positive relationships with the children.

Area 1

Ensure Student Safety Assistants are attentive to student safety at all times. They follow Diocesan and Parish guidelines regarding safe environment and notify their supervisor of major issues or concerns regarding student safety. For example, Assistants:

· Follow proper check in and check out procedures · Provide consistent supervision · Enforce Diocesan and Parish Safe Environment Procedures

Area 2

Organize the Afternoon Assistants structure the afternoon to maintain order in the Aftercare Program as well as ensure all spaces are prepared before student arrival. For example, Assistants:

· Create a basic plan for each day based on attendance and the needs of the students · Include a balance of study, rest, and play · Keep their Supervisor up to date on Aftercare needs

Area 3 Engage with the Students

While maintaining proper boundaries, Assistants engage the students so that they feel safe, valued, and cared for while at Aftercare. For example, Assistants:

· Get to know the students and their interests · Actively participate in their conversations and activities · Make the Aftercare program fun

Requirements

  • Compliance with BCI&I background checks and completion of Protecting God's Children program,
  • Support Parish Mission Statement and Diversity,
  • Adherence to Catholic Church Teaching statement,
  • Strong supervisory skills,
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information,
  • Ability to maintain high ethical standards in all matters,
  • And must be able to work and relate well with other staff and parishioners/school families.
