Responsibilities

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury invites applications for an adjunct faculty position. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of coursework within the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program and support student learning, professional development, and academic success. The specific course assignment may vary based on program needs and the candidate's area of expertise and may include clinical science, foundational science, professional practice, research, evidence-based practice, movement sciences, patient management, or other areas within the curriculum. Applications are now being accepted with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2026.

Responsibilities

Deliver instruction in assigned courses consistent with course objectives, program outcomes, and accreditation requirements. Prepare and present current, evidence-informed course content using effective teaching and learning strategies. Support student learning through classroom, laboratory, online, or hybrid instructional activities, as applicable. Evaluate student performance using established assessment methods and grading criteria. Provide timely, constructive feedback on examinations, assignments, projects, presentations, practical assessments, and other course requirements. Maintain regular communication with students and be available via email and scheduled office hours or appointments. Collaborate with course coordinators and core faculty to ensure consistency and continuity within the curriculum. Participate in course planning, implementation, evaluation, and improvement activities as requested. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, grades, and other required documentation. Demonstrate professionalism and adhere to university, program, and accreditation policies and procedures. Maintain currency and proficiency in the assigned content area, instructional methods, and relevant professional practice standards. Perform other teaching-related duties appropriate to the adjunct faculty role.

Qualifications

Earned doctoral degree (DPT, PhD, EdD, ScD, or other relevant doctoral degree) preferred. Candidates with other appropriate graduate degrees and relevant expertise may be considered. For courses involving physical therapist practice, candidates must possess a current New York State license to practice physical therapy or be eligible for licensure in New York State. Demonstrated expertise in the content area being taught. Prior teaching, instructional, mentoring, or professional experience in physical therapy, healthcare, higher education, or a related field preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to contribute to an inclusive learning environment that supports student engagement and success. Commitment to evidence-informed practice, professional development, and excellence in graduate education. Must be a professional in good standing. Preferred qualifications may include American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) certification in a relevant specialty area and/or other specialty certifications, advanced clinical training, or recognized expertise related to the assigned course content. Adjunct Faculty offered hourly rate is contingent on applicable rank. Minimum Salary USD $99.00/Hr. Maximum Salary USD $108.00/Hr.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a valid New York State license to practice physical therapy and be in good standing. A minimum of 5 years of experience in sports or orthopedic settings is preferred, along with OCS or SCS certification.
