About the role

The Classroom Aide provides academic, behavioral, and emotional support to students with diverse learning needs in a special education setting. They collaborate with teachers and staff to facilitate learning, ensure student safety, and maintain accurate session documentation.

Classroom Aide: Full time/Non-exempt

Location: North Hudson Academy, North Bergen, NJ

Compensation Range

$19.50-$21.50/per hour

Reports to: School Principal

Position Summary

The Classroom Aide would provide essential support to students with diverse learning needs while focusing on academic, behavioral, and emotional development. A Specialized Paraprofessional primarily supports students in an educational setting, assisting with academic tasks, and providing social and emotional support. Their focus is on facilitating learning and social-emotional integration within the classroom. This role requires a dedicated individual who is passionate about making a positive impact on students' lives.

North Hudson Academy, a First Children School, is a New Jersey Department of Education approved private special education school, serving students from PreK through high school. Our school offers programs for students with behavioral/emotional issues, pre[1]school handicapped and learners on the Autism Spectrum.

Job Responsibilities

  • Academic
  • Support: Assist students with assignments, homework, and projects. Provide one-on-one or small-group instructional support. Utilize strategies to enhance student learning.
  • Social/Emotional/Behavioral
  • Support: Provide emotional support and encouragement to students. Assist with social and emotional skills development. Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment. Use individual and general classroom management strategies to promote academic and social engagement. Support students in managing their emotions and behavior.
  • Communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents and other professionals. Collaborate with staff and supervisors as needed to assess and monitor concerns.
  • Ensure overall safety and well-being for students in their care and supervision.
  • Support students in related therapies as required.
  • Work collaboratively with a supervisor when providing consultation and feedback.
  • Participate in ongoing annual training and professional development opportunities
  • Stay up-to-date on best practices in education and behavioral health
  • Incorporate trauma-informed practices
  • Maintain accurate timesheets and complete session notes in Central Reach

Team

This role will be part of the Instructional team, reporting to the school principal.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other staff members
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher
  • Experience working with students with social and emotional challenges
