About the role

The teacher assistant supports the lead teacher by adapting classroom activities, assisting students with lesson assignments, and maintaining a safe learning environment. They also perform general administrative tasks and monitor student behavior across various settings like classrooms and playgrounds.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: ● Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials (e.g., art projects, computer skills, language skills, etc.) to support and reinforce classroom goals and objectives. ● Assist with classroom assignments to support teachers in the instructional process. ● Assist students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g., reading stories, providing writing assistance, reinforcing language skills, numbers, alphabet, computer learning programs, etc.) to practice and/or reinforce learning concepts and assist students in reaching academic goals and developmental milestones. ● Communicate with teachers for the purpose of assisting in implementing classroom objectives. ● Maintain classroom equipment, work area, and records (e.g., clean/bleach tables, sign-in/sign-out logs, etc.) to ensure item availability, provide written references, provide a safe learning environment, and/or meet mandated requirements. ● Monitor individual and/or group students in a variety of settings (e.g., classroom, playground, field trips, etc.) to provide a safe and positive learning environment. ● Perform general tasks (e.g., laminating, making copies, bulletin boards, filing, etc.) to help the teacher prepare instructional materials. ● Report observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, appropriate and inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) to communicate information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel. ● Attend meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey information relative to job functions. ● Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. ● Be familiar with and adhere to Type II state regulations, school policies and procedures, emergency drills, and safeguarding guidelines. ● Attend professional development meetings and workshops to meet state guidelines. ● Assist in diaper changing, bottle feeding, snack and lunchtime, playtime, stroller rides, etc. ● Perform tasks as directed by the lead teacher. ● Be actively advocating Kehoe-France Northshore’s vision, mission, and promises. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying, squatting, pushing, or pulling. Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma This position is conditional to the provision of federal criminal background checks covering the countries that you have lived and worked in for the last 10 years and any convictions highlighted will be reviewed against standard Safeguarding principles of working with children. All checks requested to be received prior to commencement of employment. Additionally, all employees are required to be drug tested upon hire. The school also will require random drug tests
