About the role

The lifeguard provides water safety protection by scanning the swimming environment and enforcing facility rules. They are responsible for performing emergency duties and maintaining a safe, healthy environment for all patrons.

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Under direct supervision, this position provides water safety protection for swimmers at College facility. Duties include: interacting with users of the facility in a professional manner on a daily basis; addressing safety of swimmers for changes in weather conditions; scanning swimming environment to make sure swimmers are following safety guidelines; and performing emergency duties if needed. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Arrives at work on time and ready to perform duties. Maintains a safe and healthy environment. Copes with weather conditions while performing employment duties. Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Possess any relevant combination of training, experience and education, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Valid certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED. Knowledge of approved water rescue methods and first aid techniques. Skill in swimming and water rescue. Skill in organizing. Skill with basic computer applications employees use on the job or as employees of the College. Ability to learn and enforce facility rules and regulations. Ability to maintain the safety of patrons and to recognize and prevent dangerous situations from arising. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work. During an emergency, this position may be required to retrieve a swimmer weighing more than 100 pounds in the water and then lift or drag that swimmer to safety. Classification Staff Supervisory No FLSA Exempt No Employment Type Temporary (Fixed Term) Compensation and Application Deadline Pay range starts at: $15.76/hour | All salary calculations start at the minimum salary and will be based on candidate's education and experience. | Grant Funded. | Open until filled.

Requirements

Candidates must possess valid certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR, and AED. The role requires the ability to perform physical rescues and maintain professional interactions with facility users.
