Position Summary

The Faculty Member in the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program serves as a designated, qualified instructor responsible for delivering effective didactic and laboratory instruction and supervising the development of student clinical skills. Faculty maintain contemporary expertise, create a safe and positive learning environment, assess student performance fairly, and support student success in accordance with ACCSC Standards of Accreditation, CAPTE requirements, and institutional policy.

Compensation / Salary range

Hourly Range: $21-$24/hour Part-Time

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Academic credentials appropriate to the courses taught and consistent with ACCSC and CAPTE expectations for PTA faculty; degree at least equivalent to the credential the program awards

Licensure / Credentials

Current, valid, and unrestricted license or certification to practice as a Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in the state(s) in which the program operates. Contemporary expertise in the content area taught, maintained through continuing education.

Experience

Minimum of three (3) years of full-time post-licensure clinical experience as a PT or PTA. Clinical or teaching experience relevant to the assigned content area; prior teaching experience preferred. Effective communication, laboratory instruction, and student supervision skills.

Documentation of qualifications (Maintained in personnel file)

Current resume or curriculum vitae (CV). Official transcripts documenting all degrees earned. Copy of current, unrestricted PT or PTA license/certification and documentation of continuing education.

Essential duties & responsibilities

  • Deliver assigned didactic and laboratory instruction in accordance with approved syllabi, course and lab objectives, and the program outline.
  • Prepare lesson plans, laboratory activities, assessments, and instructional materials that promote student achievement of course objectives and safe clinical skill development.
  • Supervise and evaluate students in laboratory and skill-check settings, ensuring patient-safety and infection-control standards.
  • Evaluate and document student performance fairly and consistently, and provide timely feedback.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grade, and advising records in accordance with institutional policy.
  • Hold scheduled office hours and provide academic support and advising to promote student retention and success.
  • Participate in faculty in-service training and maintain an individual professional development plan and contemporary expertise.
  • Participate in curriculum review, laboratory maintenance, and program assessment activities as requested.
  • Support institutional and programmatic accreditation activities, including outcomes data collection.
  • Maintain current, unrestricted licensure and comply with all program, institutional, and safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Director of Education.

Professional development & evaluation

The incumbent will participate in institutional in-service training, maintain an individual professional development plan to sustain current knowledge and skills in the field, and be subject to periodic performance evaluation, which may include classroom/laboratory observation, in accordance with ACCSC Standards and institutional policy.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a valid, unrestricted license as a Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant and possess at least three years of full-time post-licensure clinical experience. Academic credentials must be consistent with ACCSC and CAPTE expectations for the program.
