The Instructional Assistant supports teachers by monitoring student activities, assisting with lesson plan implementation, and maintaining a safe classroom environment. They also perform essential clerical tasks and provide direct support to students to promote their physical and emotional well-being.

Position Summary

The Instructional Assistant position will assist students under the direction of a certified teacher. The Instructional Assistant assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities, help students, and cares for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and striving to promote dignity in all relationships. The Instructional Assistant will be under the supervision of the Principal.

RequirementsESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Monitors individual and groups of students, classroom and/or playground activities for the purpose of providing a safe environment. Assists teachers and parents for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and general requirements of teaching, i.e. setting up schedules, meetings, etc., in both large and small group activities. Performs record keeping, i.e. recording test results, basic clerical functions, copying tests, handouts, etc. for the purpose of supporting the teacher in maintaining students’ files and providing classroom materials. Maintains classroom equipment and supplies, etc. for the purpose of ensuring a safe and appropriate learning environment. Consults with teacher on a daily basis for current and future problems as well as alerting teacher to any problem or special information about students. Assists teacher in supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips. Administers tests for the purpose of assisting teacher. Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information. Contacts parents if requested by the teacher or administrator. QUALIFICATIONSRequired knowledge and skills Work experience in a school setting with students Must possess organization, communication and problem solving skills. Must pass a DOJ background check. Must be willing to create and follow through with individualized professional development plan. Ability to demonstrate skills in development of academic activities. Strong administrative and organizational skills. High level of communication skills, both written and oral. Strong initiative and ability to solve problems. Education Desired BA Degree preferred, but not absolutely necessary Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of desk work and computer use. Ability to regularly use finger dexterity. Prolonged periods of standing and walking on stairs, inclines and flat surfaces Motor coordination and finger dexterity for keyboarding and other tasks. Occasional lifting of objects up to twenty pounds. Ability to sustain in various weather conditions. Ability to access and navigate various facilities within the multiple school site network. Salary Description $22.50 - $25.00/hr
