About the role

The assistant coaches will supervise and instruct student-athletes during crew practices and regattas while maintaining team equipment. They are also responsible for supporting a diverse student body and fulfilling program-wide duties as assigned by the program heads.

About the Role

Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle is currently recruiting for (2) ASSISTANT COACHES, (1) NOVICE ASSISTANT COACH for the 2026-2027 school year. Practices are Monday through Friday, 3:30-6:15 pm. Candidates interested in working two or three days (rather than all five) are encouraged to apply. There are several weekend regattas with some overnight requirements.

Responsibilities

These coaches, reporting to the girls and boys crew program heads, will join an athletics program that includes 26 varsity teams, most of which have both sub-varsity and middle-school counterparts. The crew program supports varsity and novice teams which include Middle School students. These coaches will be responsible for coaching duties with their team, as well as other program-wide duties as assigned by the crew program heads. Specific responsibilities include.

  • 1.
  • Compliance with all Lakeside School policies and procedures.
  • 2.
  • Commitment to providing support, messaging, actions, and opportunities to a diverse student body who come to school with different and evolving lived experiences and levels of preparation as athletes.
  • 3.
  • Supervision and instruction of student-athletes during team activities.
  • 4.
  • Maintenance and inventory of team equipment and apparel.
  • 5.
  • Attendance at required program and interscholastic athletics program meetings.
  • 6.
  • Support of multi-sport participation for student-athletes.
  • 7.
  • Promotion of balanced achievement in all areas of school life for student-athletes.

Requirements: and Qualifications

  • 1.
  • At least 21 years of age, with a clean driving record preferred.
  • 2.
  • Coaching experience preferred but not required.
  • Those without coaching experience must have participated in crew at the club, high school, or college level.
  • 3.
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions.
  • Candidates will understand different perspectives, interact respectfully with cultures other than their own, and cultivate meaningful relationships with people who have different cultural frameworks.
  • 4.
  • Possess or obtain prior to the start of the season current First Aid/CPR certification and boater certification.
  • 5.
  • Satisfactorily complete at least two criminal background checks.

Compensation and Benefits Assistant Varsity $6,000 seasonally - fall, winter, spring Assistant Novice $4,000 seasonally - fall, spring We offer a stipend schedule that compares favorably with peer schools and clubs both locally and nationally. Coaching stipends are paid in monthly installments during the primary competition seasons. Other benefits include Lakeside Athletics apparel and access to funds for professional development.
