The Sports Coach is responsible for leading and supervising youth or adult sports programs in a safe, positive, and engaging environment. This position teaches sport-specific skills, promotes teamwork and sportsmanship, and supports participant development while following organizational policies and safety standards.
Job responsibilities: Follow abuse prevention policies Complete required safety training. Maintain appropriate boundaries. Comply with mandated reporting requirements. Plan and lead practices, drills, games, and skill development activities Teach fundamentals, rules, and techniques of assigned sport(s) Create a positive and inclusive environment for all participants Encourage teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, and character development Ensure participant safety during practices, games, and events Monitor attendance and communicate with parents, athletes, and supervisors as needed Set up and clean up equipment and program areas before and after activities Enforce program rules and behavioral expectations consistently Respond appropriately to injuries, emergencies, and incident reporting procedures Serve as a positive role model for participants and staff
Qualifications
Minimum age requirement: 18 years old Previous coaching, playing, or instructional experience preferred Knowledge of sports rules, techniques, and skill progression Strong communication and leadership skills Ability to work effectively with children, teens, and/or adults Ability to pass required background screening and child abuse prevention training The Kenosha YMCA has zero tolerance for abuse of youth in its programs by employees or volunteers and will follow child abuse prevention policies, comply with mandated reporting requirements, and cooperate with law enforcement. This is an unpaid, volunteer position.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old and possess knowledge of sports rules and techniques. Previous coaching or instructional experience is preferred, and the ability to pass a background screening and child abuse prevention training is mandatory.
