About the role

The substitute teacher supports the Montessori classroom environment by assisting with daily activities, maintaining safety, and redirecting children as needed. They also perform physical tasks such as cleaning, organizing materials, and preparing snacks to ensure a functional learning space.

II.

Position Summary: The substitute is an on-call support staff position hired on a part-time basis as needed to support

III. Learning Outcomes

1.

Carry out the plans and directives of the Administrator and/or Montessori Teacher and abide by all licensing and accreditation standards.

2.

Assist with the set-up and the maintenance of the Montessori prepared environment.

This includes but is not limited to making materials and activities, cleaning, sweeping, mopping, dusting, moving furniture, and other chores necessary so that the environment is clean, aesthetically pleasing, and safe for the children.

3.

Prepare snacks, refill supplies as needed, and do other tasks as required to support the teaching staff and Administrator.

4.

Participate in staff meetings as applicable and in-service training as needed.

V. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Attend school functions as requested 2. Support teaching staff by redirecting children as needed to allow teachers to continue working with the children and/or observe as needed.

VII. Education and Experience

1. Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent 2. Proof of a criminal record clearance. 3. A physical examination clearance for work with children aged two to six. 4. A current TB screening 5. Member of the Early Childhood Systems Patch Registry with the qualification of Aide for group child care centers and homes.

Preferred

Student should maintain a current GPA of at least (2.5/3.0)

IX. Physical Requirements

I. Physical Requirements

1. Must be capable of meeting the physical demands of employment 2. Must be capable of bending, reaching, running, and carrying up to 50 lbs. 3. Must be capable of moving furniture and arranging classroom activities 4. Must be capable of standing for prolonged periods of time. 5. Must have finger dexterity.

X. Other Requirements

  • This is a Part-time Non-Exempt Student Worker position. Depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule.
  • Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required
  • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
