About the role

The Assistant Teacher is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of children while supporting daily routines and classroom transitions. They assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate learning activities and maintaining an organized, inclusive environment.

  • Monday through
  • Friday, 9:00
  • AM to 6:00
  • PM, including a 1-hour unpaid break and ideally, 2:00
  • PM to 6:00 PM for Part-Time.

Key Responsibilities Ensure the safety and well-being of children through active supervision.

Support daily routines, including meals, rest time, hygiene, and classroom transitions.

Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate learning activities and lesson plans.

Foster a positive, inclusive classroom that encourages children's independence and development.

Maintain a clean, organized, and engaging learning environment.

Use positive guidance techniques to encourage appropriate behavior.

Build professional, respectful relationships with children, families, and team members.

Follow all Virginia licensing regulations, health and safety procedures, and center policies.

Assist with attendance, classroom documentation, and other administrative tasks as needed.

Participate in required training and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

Meet Virginia child care licensing requirements for Assistant Teachers. Previous experience in a childcare, preschool, or early childhood setting is preferred. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Commitment to providing high-quality care and early childhood education.

Skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Patient, dependable, and nurturing. Organized with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities. Professional, reliable, and committed to maintaining confidentiality. Passion for supporting young children's learning and development.

Experience working with children in a childcare, preschool, or ECE

1 year (Preferred)

Requirements

Candidates must meet Virginia child care licensing requirements for Assistant Teachers. Previous experience in a childcare or preschool setting is preferred.
