The teacher is responsible for maintaining a safe, nurturing learning environment while delivering Reggio Emilia-inspired lesson plans. They must also document student progress, manage classroom behaviors, and collaborate with colleagues to support developmental goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Safety & Safeguarding Maintain a safe and secure learning environment at all times, both indoors and outdoors. Be familiar with and adhere to Type II state regulations, school policies, emergency procedures, and safeguarding guidelines. Report all observations and incidents (e.g., accidents, behavioral concerns, safety issues) to appropriate staff promptly. Supervise children closely in all settings including the classroom, playground, field trips, and transitions. Maintain classroom equipment, materials, and records (e.g., sanitizing tables, managing sign-in/out logs) to meet health and safety standards. Assist with diaper changing, bottle feeding, snacks and meals, and other caregiving routines with hygiene and safety protocols in mind. 2. Social-Emotional Development Foster a nurturing and respectful environment that promotes positive relationships and emotional well-being. Manage individual and group behaviors in a calm and supportive manner to build self-regulation and interpersonal skills. Support the development of appropriate social behaviors through modeling, redirection, and intentional teaching moments. 3. Instructional Planning & Delivery Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with Reggio Emilia inspired teaching and learning, as well as Teaching Strategies Gold objectives. Adapt activities and materials to meet diverse learning needs and developmental levels. Engage students individually and in small groups to support language, literacy, numeracy, and other foundational skills. Collaborate with assistant teachers and colleagues to implement curriculum and reinforce learning goals. Document student learning using Reggio Emilia-inspired practices, such as capturing observations through photos, anecdotal notes, and student work samples to make learning visible and reflect each child's developmental journey. 4. Assessment & Communication Administer formative and summative assessments to monitor developmental progress. Use digital platforms (e.g., Seesaw, iSams, email) effectively for instruction, communication, and documentation. Communicate daily tasks and classroom goals to assistant teachers to ensure consistent and effective implementation. 5. Professionalism & School Engagement Attend staff meetings, in-service trainings, and required professional development to remain compliant with state guidelines and stay current on best practices. Support the school’s mission, vision, and community values as an active advocate of Kehoe-France Northshore. Perform tasks as directed by the Principal and/or Preschool Director to support the overall success of the program. Participate in school-wide events, team collaborations, and continuous improvement initiatives. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying, squatting, pushing, and/or pulling. High School Diploma This position is conditional to the provision of federal criminal background check covering the countries that you have lived and worked in for the last 10 years and any convictions highlighted will be reviewed against standard Safeguarding principles of working with children.
