Position Summary

Our teacher assistants model good character and assist teachers in phonics-based literacy, Singapore math, and the great ideas and works of history, science, and literature. We seek candidates with a high standard of excellence, professional demeanor, warm rapport with students, clear communication with parents and other staff members, and a can-do attitude to join our team. The ideal candidate will be organized, diligent, and devoted to partnering with his/her lead teacher to help students grow in wisdom and virtue. This position collaborates directly with his/her assigned lead teacher and reports to the Dean of Faculty. Essential Functions: Collaborate directly with the lead teacher to develop and implement a content rich classical education by following curriculum guidelines and expectations Assist with classroom housekeeping items such as collecting, organizing, and grading students' work and materials, copying worksheets, distributing materials and items, keeping a tidy classroom Build positive relationships with students by checking up on missing work, managing behaviors, executing small group and individual instruction, proctoring tests and evaluations, and meeting all accommodations Assist with daily operations of the school such as supervision of beginning and end of day routines and procedures, lunch and recess times, and other transitional periods Guide and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods Proctor or supervise tests on the annual testing cycle (beginning of year, middle of year, end of year) Identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others Maintain confidentiality in student records Maintain a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners Effectively communicate with supervisor and teammates Complete all required training and provide documentation Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace Perform other duties as assigned Position Requirements: Adherence to the mission and vision of ACACS and all school policies Commitment to high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self-government Adherence to all school policies Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues Creative problem-solving skills Professional experience working with children preferred Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds Must be able to traverse classroom and building Must be able to supervise outdoor recess periods for up to 40 mins outdoors Benefits Available: Employer covers the monthly premium cost of certain benefit options for health, dental, and vision for full-time employees Employer contributes to a health savings account for full-time employees who choose one of the high deductible plans Employer offers a percentage match to a retirement investment account Employee Assistance Plan with access to free counseling and other advisory sessions Paid time off, sick pay Extensive training and mentoring opportunities Mandatory Background Checks: In alignment with our commitment to student safety, all candidates are required to undergo a comprehensive background check, which includes reviewing criminal records and may require fingerprinting.
