Requirements

Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent. Six months experience in a structured early childhood education setting (preschool, Head Start, Kindergarten, day-care center, etc.) and demonstrated skills to perform the duties of this position-OR- Documented satisfactory completion of a related Work Experience placement in and early childhood education setting, and demonstrated skills to perform the duties for this position –OR- 2 years of experience operating an in-home childcare with satisfactory employment and character references and demonstrated ability to perform the duties for this position. Able to work effectively with families. Able to use a positive approach in directing child behavior. Able to work cooperatively as a team member Must be able to satisfy a criminal record check, Department of Human Services (DHS) background check, and to enroll and maintain enrollment in the State of Oregon Criminal History Registry. Must have a valid First Aid/CPR Card, Food Handlers card or be able to obtain it within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

Assists in the follow through of the daily educational plan within the classroom and plans activities. Assists in setting up and maintaining a developmentally appropriate classroom environment including organization of space and material storage. Completes required documentation and follow up activities. Works in a team setting with other staff involved in meeting the needs of the child. Must complete 15 hours of professional development annually. Must maintain certifications for First Aid/CPR and Food Handlers. Must complete annual mandatory training requirements for health and safety and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Teacher assigns work, advises of changes of procedures and is available for assistance when required. \ The Childcare Worker works cooperatively with the classroom staff to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities. \ The Teacher debriefs daily with the Childcare Worker to ensure that all standards are being met. GUIDELINES: Tenas Illahee Childcare Center regulations and directives and Oregon Child Care Division established procedures, work plans and performance expectations. Compliance with the regulations, directives, standards, policies and procedures, work plans and performance expectations must be maintained. When instructions do not apply the problem is referred to the Teacher. COMPLEXITY: Provides a nurturing and supportive, developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant learning experience to infants through age 5 years children in a daycare/classroom setting. Assists with the development of curriculum, lesson plans, individual learning plans, and a classroom environment that supports the growth and development of the children. Initiates and sustains contact with parents to build a mutually supportive relationship that will foster the parent’s ability to be the primary educator and nurturer for their child. SCOPE AND EFFECT: Ensures that all children receive an individualized educational learning experience that supports their growth and development and will lead to positive outcomes for the child. Ensures that children are immersed in the teaching of Siletz Tribal, other Native American and other cultures. Ensures that the parent’s understanding and awareness regarding the developmental needs of their child is strengthened so they are able to support and nurture their child’s growth and development. PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contact is with infants through age 5 years children in a daycare/classroom setting. Contacts are with parents in the classroom, through the telephone. Contacts are also with other staff in the classroom, with other agencies that provide services to children, families and program. PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Personal contacts involve providing instruction and assisting children to participate in classroom and/or program activities. Personal contacts involve sharing and soliciting information from parents about their child, about their personal lives and family situations, and to solicit parent involvement within the classroom and/or program functions and activities. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work requires walking, bending, sitting in child-sized chairs and at child-sized tables, crouching to talk to children, some lifting of children, and running to intervene if a child’s safety is at risk. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a classroom setting. All new employees will serve a six-month probationary period to enable the Board of Directors to determine their suitability as a childcarel employee. After six-month probation, the employee will be evaluated on his/her performance and at that time it will be decided if the employee is entitled to a regular employee status.
