The Health Science Academic Advisor provides guidance and support to students majoring in pre-allied health programs by assisting with course scheduling and academic planning. Additionally, the role involves coaching students on time management, self-efficacy, and career preparation including resume and interview strategies.
The Health Sciences Academic Advisor reports to the Assistant Director of Advising and is chiefly responsible for providing guidance and support for all students majoring in pre-allied health programs at Louisiana State University at Eunice. The purpose of this position is to support these students holistically by ensuring that best practices in student advising, career and academic coaching are followed, and working as a part of a supportive team in the Integrated Learning Center. Job Responsibilities: 70% Advising - Service pre-allied health majors in the following ways: assist students in choosing the appropriate program and/or major and scheduling of courses; recommend courses of action for students seeking academic guidance; maintain student advising records; and uphold the policies and procedures of the University as related to advisory duties. 25% COACHING - Service these students in the following ways: assist in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding academic success; work with students to learn strong time management and organization skills; motivate students to take ownership of their academic success; assist students with preparations for effective job searching including feedback on resumes and strategizing for a successful job interview. 5% Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree
Bachelor's Degree 2 years' experience in admissions, advising, retention, and/or teaching in higher education is preferred.
