Position Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position is responsible for caring for small groups of children independently at a school site before and after school and/or summer. The BASE Teacher is responsible for the overall operation of the program in the absence of the Site Director.

Understand ethical behavior and business practices, and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization; maintain a work ethic that holds a high standard to organizational accountability. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Program Management Insure high quality programming to be compliant with MSDE guidelines and provide a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment for all participants and staff. Take charge of the program in the absence of the Site Director. Insure all children’s safety by following the discipline policy and YMCA Code of Conduct. Maintain a high safety standard and accident/injury prevention standard. Work with the site director to insure a high quality program by incorporating a variety of activities designed to promote arts and humanities, character development, health, wellness and fitness, STEM, service learning, homework support, literacy and social competence/conflict resolution. Take the lead on specific activities as directed by your supervisor to help implement a quality child care program. Build a warm respectful relationship with all the children and provide a secure environment through supervision while encouraging development of abilities and responsibilities for a child’s behavior. Be at assigned site during all hours of operation throughout the school year and as scheduled during the summer. Maintain an open and approachable attitude to parents at all times. Communicate with parents on the positive aspects of the child’s day as well as on any behavior issues. Assist site director in conducting family events quarterly to develop and maintain positive parent and child relationships. Assist the site director in maintaining positive relationships through open communication between the school, staff and parents. Administrative Perform all administrative function as they relate to the BASE department and site operations. Assist the Site Director in promoting the Y programs with the parents, school and community, ensuring healthy programs. Assist the Site Director when needed in the completion of administrative duties including but not limited to the following: incident/accident reports, attendance sheets, and USDA food program documents. Participate in a minimum of one YMCA event throughout the year, not to include volunteer events. Follow the chain of command as it pertains to programmatic issues. Participate in and complete staff trainings as needed to enhance all aspects of program delivery and other trainings as directed. Work directly with Annual Campaign Team to insure annual site goals are met. Maintain confidentiality in dealing with programmatic issues, staff and participant information and not disseminate it outside of the program. Comply with the child care dress code while working or representing the YMCA. Comply with all Paycom procedures. Maintain a professional image and attitude while working or representing the YMCA. QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 19 years of age. Must hold a high school diploma or GED, or completed college coursework for credit. Must have the following approved training and experience: 6 Semester hours or 90 clock hours of approved training, 45 hours of which must be in Child Development and 45 in Curriculum. 400 hours of experience in a school age environment, OR 1 year caring for school age children in a registered family child care. 9 clock hours of approved training in communicating with staff, parents, and the public, or equivalent. 3 clock hours of training in ADA compliance Must have exceptional work ethic and strength of character.

Requirements

Candidates must be at least 19 years old and hold a high school diploma or GED. They are required to have specific child development training, 400 hours of school-age experience, and training in ADA compliance and communication.
