About the role

The Assistant Teacher supports the operation of the classroom by implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and maintaining a safe learning environment. They also provide professional communication to parents and supervise children in the absence of the Lead Teacher.

Overview

Assists in the operation of the classrooms according to State and local governing agencies, Center policies, NCRLAP (ITERS/ECERS) guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the creation and development of a developmentally appropriate curriculum for the classroom using Creative Curriculum & NC Foundations for Early Education.
  • Assists in the planning and preparation of the learning environment to meet cognitive, physical, emotional & social needs of the individual child.
  • Provides services with consideration of the recipient’s needs.
  • Assists in the operation of the classrooms according to State and local governing agencies, Center policies, NCRLAP (ITERS/ECERS) guidelines.
  • Uses positive guidance techniques.
  • Supervises classroom in the absence of Lead Teacher Provides professional, accurate and timely communications to parents.

Qualifications

  • NC Early Childhood Credentials preferred with a minimum of 1 year classroom management experience.
  • Willingness to obtain the NCECC with in the first year of employment may be considered.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift children.
  • Ability to move quickly in emergency situations, and interact energetically with children.
  • Ability to withstand extensive standing, stooping, bending, and squatting.
  • Ability to communicate with other individuals.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases and/or blood/body fluids

Requirements

Candidates should possess NC Early Childhood Credentials or be willing to obtain them within the first year. A minimum of one year of classroom management experience is preferred.
