The Dental Health Educator serves as a key member of the dental care team by promoting oral health education, improving access to care, coordinating referrals, supporting community outreach, and assisting with clinical operations to improve patient outcomes.
With a Quality, Customer First, and Compassionate approach, The Dental Health Educator/Coordinator will:
Provides oral health education to patients, families, schools, and community organizations.
Coordinates referrals and assists patients in accessing dental services within Sunrise Community Health and community partner organizations.
Helps patients navigate barriers to care including transportation, insurance, language, scheduling, and health literacy.
Supports integrated medical and dental initiatives through patient education and referral coordination.
Conducts outreach activities at schools, health fairs, community events, and partner organizations.
Assists with school-based dental programs, screenings, enrollment activities, and oral health promotion events.
Maintains outreach, education, referral, and program data for reporting and quality improvement initiatives.
Manages referral workflows including scheduling appointments, tracking referral status, obtaining outside records, documenting patient communication, and routing information to the appropriate provider.
Builds and maintains positive working relationships with community partners, physicians, schools, and referring offices.
Completes medical records processes including obtaining records, scanning documents into the electronic health record, routing documentation appropriately, and maintaining HIPAA compliance.
Assists patients with scheduling appointments, follow-up care, and referrals.
Assists with patient registration activities including verification of demographic information, insurance, consent forms, and HIPAA documentation as needed.
Assists with insurance estimates, payment quotes, and patient financial responsibility discussions.
Prepares patients for dental procedures by rooming patients, reviewing, and documenting medical histories, medications, and allergies, and ensuring a smooth and efficient patient flow.
Exposes and maintains high-quality digital dental radiographs (X-rays) in compliance with state regulations and certification requirements.
Accurately documents clinical findings, treatment provided, and patient information in the electronic dental record (EDR).
Maintains infection prevention standards through proper sterilization, operatory turnover, equipment disinfection, and compliance with OSHA, CDC, and organizational guidelines.
Prepares operatories, sterilizes instruments, maintains inventory, and stocks treatment rooms.
Assists the dental team during procedures as needed to support efficient clinic operations.
Participates in collaborative quality improvement initiatives.
Follows organizational policies and clinical protocols.
