Unit

No Brooklyn College Community Partnership (BCCP) seeks community-oriented, part-time Group Leaders (GL) for its DYCD-funded COMPASS middle school program. The GL models positive behavior, leads and supervises participant groups, and designs and delivers activities under the guidance of the Content Specialist. The Group Leader participates in ongoing professional development and contributes to a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.

Responsibilities

With direction from the Content Specialist, facilitate structured, creative, and enriching activities that promote youth social, emotional, and physical well-being and complement school-day learning. Supervise and engage middle school participants while fostering a safe, welcoming environment where every participant feels supported and encouraged to participate in after-school activities. Model positive behavior and effective management to guide students toward developing confidence, respect, and responsibility. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, share ideas openly, communicate effectively, and contribute to a supportive, collaborative team environment that enhances participants’ academic growth. Respond to and report any incidents promptly, ensuring student safety while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor. Attend professional development sessions and staff meetings to continuously grow, sharpen your skills, and stay inspired as an educator and mentor. Attend weekly check-ins with supervisor and participate in ongoing professional development provided by BCCP and DYCD’s professional development partners. Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants. Document participants’ work for presentation at program events and BCCP’s Annual Artsfest. Comply with NYC DOE, DOHMH, DYCD, and NYS SACC regulations. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required; current college undergraduates or higher are preferred Must be 18 years or older, with at least 2 years of direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, preferably in a school setting or similar environment Strong knowledge of the NYC DOE Public School system Commitment to equity and to implementing culturally responsive teaching practices Strong communication skills Strong interest in community work and youth development Proficient in MS Office and Google Workspace Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 2 to 6 PM (up to 18 hours per week) About BCCP: The Brooklyn College Community Partnership (BCCP), operating under the fiscal sponsorship of RFCUNY, is a community-based organization that provides youth development programs connecting Brooklyn College with surrounding neighborhoods. Through after-school and extracurricular initiatives in NYC Public Schools and at the Brooklyn College Art Lab (BCAL), BCCP offers holistic, interdisciplinary programming rooted in the principles of Positive Youth Development. Our activities empower students, spark creativity, and support their academic, social-emotional, and developmental growth while strengthening connections among youth, families, and the broader community.
