The advisor will partner with students to determine and achieve their educational and career goals through academic advising and career assessment. They will also assist with student onboarding, orientation sessions, and provide ongoing support by connecting students to college and community resources.
Job Title: Temporary Part-time Professional Advisor (Grant Funded)
$15.00 per hour
Walters State Community College - Morristown Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)
Partner with students and assist them in determining and achieving their education and career goals. Assist students with career assessment and planning, support onboarding efforts prior to and during new student orientation sessions. Provide ongoing academic advising support and follow up with an assigned student population and guide students to college and community support services. Develop career and academic field expertise and gather transfer content knowledge through collaboration to share with students, faculty advisors, and staff.
Establish a relationship with assigned students in one-on-one and group settings. Provide educational and career planning, academic advising and support throughout the student’s educational experience. Facilitate connections to WSCC and other support services. Document work and planning performed with students via Advisor Profile, Degree Works and other college technology tools.
Assist with student onboarding activities and events, career assessment, and academic advising at new student orientation sessions.
Participate in continual research, training and professional development that is shared with faculty and staff at the college.
May perform other duties as assigned.

The incumbent has no authority or responsibility for the supervision of others. The position is not responsible for project direction and/or program administration. The position operates with limited supervision. The immediate supervisor is available when needed.
Duties are performed in a typical office environment that is clean, well-lit, quiet, and temperature-controlled. The position requires travel. Therefore, the incumbent is regularly exposed to varying weather conditions such as extreme heat or cold, rain, snow, etc., for short periods of time.

Requires ongoing verbal communication via telephone and in person.
Requires mobility needed to travel to other campuses to work with students.
Sits for long periods of time staring at a computer screen and using a mouse and keyboard.
