Light of the World Academy (LOTWA) is seeking a dedicated, student-centered Elementary School Teacher to lead a classroom for students in 1st through 3rd grade. We are looking for an educator who is passionate about helping young learners grow academically, socially, and emotionally while creating a positive, engaging, and nurturing classroom culture.

The ideal candidate will have strong classroom management skills, experience working with elementary-aged students, and a passion for fostering curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and a lifelong love of learning. Experience with Montessori education, project-based learning, or other student-centered instructional approaches is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in a classroom serving students in 1st through 3rd grade.
  • Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned with Michigan academic standards.
  • Create a positive, nurturing classroom environment that promotes student achievement and personal growth.
  • Utilize effective classroom management strategies appropriate for elementary-aged students.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, developmental, and learning needs of students.
  • Assess student progress and communicate effectively with families regarding academic performance and student development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to ensure student success.
  • Participate in school activities, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Integrate hands-on, project-based, and experiential learning opportunities whenever possible.
  • Encourage students to develop independence, confidence, responsibility, and positive social skills.

Qualifications

  • Required
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
  • Appropriate elementary education certification/endorsement with eligibility to teach students in grades 1st through 3rd.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Commitment to supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of elementary students.
  • Ability to create an engaging, structured, and supportive learning environment.
  • Preferred
  • Experience teaching students in grades 1st through 3rd.
  • Montessori experience or familiarity with Montessori philosophy.
  • Experience with project-based learning and student-centered instructional practices.
  • Demonstrated success creating engaging and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Experience differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Alternative certification candidates

Candidates who are actively enrolled in a teacher certification program and nearing completion of certification requirements may be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with prior classroom teaching experience and demonstrated classroom management skills.
