About the role

The tennis coach oversees daily tennis activities, practices, and clinics while ensuring facility rules are followed. They also provide direct teaching leadership and communicate student progress to parents.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The tennis coach oversees the activities, practices, and clinics of the tennis program.

Essential functions

1.

Provides one on one or group coaching sessions.

2.

Tracks daily attendance sheets.

3.

Keeps the courts clear of equipment and puts equipment in proper storage place.

4.

Attends all staff meetings and training sessions when scheduled.

5.

Maintains a professional attitude at all times.

6.

Reports needed equipment repairs to Tennis Pro in writing.

7.

Enforces all facility rules.

8.

Secures substitutes as necessary.

9.

Provides direct teaching leadership in a team teaching situation.

10.

Shares responsibility in interpreting and communicating child’s progress to parents.

11.

Follows all tennis program curriculums.

12.

Ensure the YMCA swim team adheres to all AASSL policies.

13.

Follows all YMCA of Greater San Antonio policies and procedures.

14.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED is required.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • One to three years experience and certification as a ASCA level 1 swim coach.
  • Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen Certifications
  • Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.

Work environment & physical demands

Work is performed in an outdoor and indoor recreation environment.

Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper techniques.

Visual acuity is necessary, to keep track of everyone in the pool.

Ability to respond properly to medical emergency is necessary.

Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration.

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and at least one to three years of experience as a swim coach. Required certifications include CPR, First Aid, AED, and YMCA swim instructor certification.
