About the role

Provide individualized instruction in reading comprehension, literary analysis, and written expression to high school students. Develop strategies to improve academic performance, organization, and executive-function skills across various content areas.

We are seeking an exceptional educator to provide individualized reading and writing instruction to a high school student. The ideal candidate will have strong experience teaching secondary English language arts and helping students strengthen reading comprehension, literary analysis, written expression, grammar, organization, and academic confidence. This role is well suited for a skilled educator who can identify a student’s specific learning needs, provide explicit and engaging instruction, and develop strategies that transfer across English and other content-area courses.

Responsibilities

Provide individualized instruction in reading comprehension, literary analysis, vocabulary, and written expression Teach students how to develop clear statements, organize ideas, incorporate textual evidence, and strengthen analysis Reinforce grammar, sentence structure, mechanics, and academic vocabulary Help the student interpret complex texts and respond thoughtfully to literature and informational sources Build effective study, organization, and executive-function strategies related to reading and writing Tailor instruction to the student’s strengths, needs, school expectations, and long-term academic goals Ideal Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; degree in English, education, literacy, or a related field preferred Teaching license, advanced degree, or specialized literacy training strongly preferred Experience teaching or tutoring high school students in reading and writing Strong knowledge of secondary English language arts, essay development, literary analysis, and research-based writing instruction Ability to provide clear, explicit instruction while maintaining an engaging and supportive learning environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Dependable, organized, professional, and responsive Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs is valued This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced educator who is passionate about helping students become more confident, capable, and independent readers and writers. Compensation $50-80 per hour

Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree in English, education, or a related field, with a teaching license or specialized literacy training preferred. Candidates must have experience teaching or tutoring high school students and possess strong knowledge of secondary English language arts.
