The Literacy Specialist supports students in developing strong reading, writing, and language skills through targeted instruction, intervention, and collaboration with classroom teachers. The specialist works to identify student literacy needs, implement effective instructional strategies, and monitor progress to help all students become confident and successful readers and writers. Key Responsibilities: Provide individual and small-group literacy instruction based on student needs. Assess students’ reading and writing skills and use data to identify areas for growth. Develop and implement targeted literacy interventions and instructional strategies. Collaborate with classroom teachers to support literacy instruction across content areas. Help teachers use evidence-based reading and writing strategies in their classrooms. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on assessment data. Support students who are below grade level or require additional literacy intervention. Maintain accurate records of student assessments, interventions, and progress. Communicate regularly with teachers, administrators, and families regarding student literacy development. Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school-wide literacy initiatives. Create a positive and encouraging learning environment that builds students’ confidence and motivation as readers and writers.
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Literacy, English, or a related field required; advanced degree or literacy certification preferred. Experience providing reading or writing intervention and/or working with diverse learners preferred. Knowledge of evidence-based literacy practices, assessment, and intervention strategies. Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and data-analysis skills. Commitment to helping students develop strong foundational literacy skills and a lifelong love of reading.
