About the role

The Lead Infant Teacher is responsible for developing age-appropriate lesson plans and maintaining a safe, nurturing environment for infants. They will also supervise assistant staff and maintain consistent communication with families regarding child progress.

The Alexandria Area YMCA is looking for a compassionate, energetic Infant Lead Teacher to lead our infant classroom at our Vivie location and provide exceptional care during a child's most important developmental stages.

As an Infant Lead Teacher, you'll create meaningful learning experiences, build trusting relationships with families, and lead a team dedicated to providing a safe, engaging, and loving environment for every child.

Essential Functions

Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that promote physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. Develop and implement a daily schedule that includes feeding, napping, playtime, and structured activities. Provide constant supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of children in your care. Evaluates and maintains records on all children's progress Maintain open and positive communication with parents/guardians, including daily updates. Work collaboratively and supervise assistant teachers, aides, and other staff members to ensure a smooth operation of the program.

$19.00 - $22.00 per hour

Requirements

Be committed to the mission and goals of the YMCA and Child Care Center. Must meet DHS Rule 3 Teacher qualifications. Post-secondary education and formal child care experience is required. Credits and hours required vary based on area of study and degree (if any) earned. Three or more years of experience in the early childhood arena is preferred but not required. Must complete and have a non-disqualified background study record. Must be certified in CPR and First Aid or obtain within the first 90 days of employment. Proof of completion of SIDS, Abusive Head Trauma, Child Abuse Prevention and Reporting before interaction with children. Must take CACFP food program training and YMCA 101 within the first 90 days of employment. Physical Demands Must be in good physical, mental, and emotional health and may be required to lift children and light equipment (5-50lb). Must be in constant awareness of the children’s safety, ensuring that activities follow rules and regulations which limit risk to the participants. Required to speak and hear. Required to reach with and use hands and arms. Must be able to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must dress appropriately for the weather as both indoor and outdoor activities are scheduled.
