The head coach is responsible for leading the high school soccer team and ensuring all athletic activities align with school and state safety standards. They must maintain accurate records of required safety certifications for all coaching staff.

Responsibilities

  • Non-faculty Coaches and Classified Employee Coaches must complete the NFHS “Fundamentals of Coaching” and “First Aid, Health, & Safety for Coaches” courses prior to assuming the position.
  • Coaches who have successfully completed the ASEP Coaches Education Course prior to May 15, 2013, will not be required to take the NFHS courses.
  • State Law (link- https://tssaa.org/health-safety-policies ) School Level AD should keep concussion Certificate- Copy on file every year.
  • School Level AD should keep Sudden Cardiac Arrest Certificate- Copy on file every year.
  • TSSAA/TMSAA (link- https://tssaa.org/health-safety-policies ) .
  • When applicable, completion of "Fundamentals of Coaching"- Copy on file.
  • When applicable, completion of "First Aid, Health, & Safety"- Copy on file.
  • NEW- When applicable, completion of “NFHS Heat Illness Prevention” course- Copy on file every year.

Requirements

Candidates must complete mandatory NFHS courses including Fundamentals of Coaching, First Aid, Health & Safety, and COVID-19 protocols. Additionally, coaches are required to maintain current certifications for concussion awareness, sudden cardiac arrest, and heat illness prevention.
