About the role

The teacher assistant will support lead teachers with lesson preparation, classroom management, and student supervision during both instructional and non-instructional times. They are also responsible for collaborating on lesson plans and ensuring a safe, clean, and nurturing learning environment for students.

We are looking for a full-time bilingual French-English Teacher Assistant to join our Lower School for the 2026–2027 school year, working with our 1st grade class.

Fluency in both French and English is required.

This role has an immediate start date.

The ideal candidate will be compassionate and self-motivated as well as possessing an innate joy of working with young children.

He/she will be devoted to building a nurturing and safe learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting teachers with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipment
  • Working with the lead teacher to monitor the class schedule
  • Going over lesson material with students individually or in small groups
  • Ensuring the classroom environment is safe, clean and tidy
  • Overseeing students during non-classroom times including in-between classes, during lunch, recess, and on-field excursions
  • Collaborating with lead teachers to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions
  • Helping lead teachers to create lesson plans
  • During camps, participating as an Lead Teacher
  • Complying with state, school, and class rules and regulations.
  • Attending all training classes, parent conferences, and faculty meetings

Qualifications

  • Full professional proficiency in both French and English is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant field is preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years experience as a teaching assistant or similar role
  • Solid understanding of classroom activities and teaching best practices
  • Must have a compassionate and positive attitude
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and presentation abilities
  • Preferred candidate will have a current U.S. work visa, if applicable The hourly rate for this position ranges between $26.00 to $28.00, dependent on the candidate’s experience and qualifications, and covers all responsibilities, including orientation week meetings, as well as staff and parent meetings. This is a full-time, non-exempt, 40-hour-per-week position with a contract through July 31, 2027. Employees are paid continuously through the end of the contract, including during scheduled school closures and holidays. Teacher Assistants are expected to work during school camp periods.

Requirements

Candidates must possess full professional proficiency in both French and English and have at least 2 years of experience in a teaching assistant or similar role. A high school diploma is required, while a bachelor's degree in education or a relevant field is preferred.
