Wheeling University is seeking a full time or part time Security Officer. This position is responsible for protecting individuals on campus property and maintaining the security of campus buildings, facilities, parking lots, walkways, and grounds of the University. They are the source of information during and after regular business hours and on weekends when the University is closed.
Responsibilities
Serve as the first responder to campus emergencies, including medical and criminal incidents. Protect students, employees, visitors, and University property. Conduct routine patrols and building checks to maintain visibility and safety. Respond to calls for assistance and coordinate with police, fire, and EMS personnel. Maintain accurate duty logs, reports, and incident documentation. Operate required department and University software systems. Lock and unlock campus buildings according to schedules and event needs. Enforce parking, traffic, and general campus policies, including issuing tickets and applying parking boots. Assess maintenance issues and perform basic actions such as electrical panel checks, water valve resets, and reporting hazards. Support Residence Life with hall regulations and Code of Conduct enforcement. Monitor campus for trespassers, leaks, fire risks, and other unusual or hazardous conditions. Ensure only authorized individuals access campus facilities. Assist and direct visitors as needed. Monitor parking lots and direct traffic when necessary. Observe and report severe or unusual weather conditions. Conduct investigations, including reviewing camera footage, interviewing witnesses, and writing reports. Serve as a liaison with local law enforcement. Perform occasional custodial or maintenance tasks as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent (GED) Minimum of 18 years of age Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check Ability to stand/walk for long periods, life heavy loads and sometimes run Strong written and oral communications and relational skills Basic computer proficiency and strong judgment/decision making abilities Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Be able to operate side by side and golf cart Must be available to work all shifts. This includes weekends, evenings, holidays and special events. One to three months of related experience preferred.
