Hopkins Athletics is a multidivisional department with 22 programs competing at the NCAA DIII level and two programs (men’s and women’s lacrosse) competing at the NCAA Division I level (BIG 10 Conference). The department also hosts a variety of robust recreational activities, including club sports, intramurals, and fitness programming.
The Hopkins Athletics department seeks an innovative and forward-thinking Certified Athletic Trainer. The Athletic Trainer works to support the mission and integrity of the Johns Hopkins University and the Athletics department. This position will provide clinical care to the varsity athletes in the Department of Athletics under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer and the supervising team physician. Demonstrating adherence to the department philosophy, facility and staff schedule, equipment and facility maintenance expectations, and communication responsibilities is essential. The strongest candidates will have a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment and a strong history of building and sustaining relationships with staff, student-athletes, and coaches.
The Athletic Trainer is directly supervised by the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Performance and Wellness. This position is a full-time, twelve-month position with an August 1st, 2026, start date, with occasional evening and weekend work required throughout the year.
The Certified Athletic Trainer will coordinate and provide healthcare and comprehensive athletic training services to varsity student-athletes in the Department of Athletics and Recreation, including injury prevention, assessment, management, treatment, rehabilitation, and education of athletic injuries and conditions affecting student-athletes. Manages clinical and administrative responsibilities related to the health and safety of student athletes with specific teams, including maintaining appropriate documentation and records. keeping as well as daily communication with coaches, staff, team physicians, and administrators as needed. Work collaboratively with athletic training colleagues, athletic performance staff, dietician, mental health and performance staff, student outreach and support, and other professionals in a holistic sports performance model. Follow standard operating procedures under the medical supervision of a team physician. Maintains Certification and License as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and the State of Maryland, to include maintaining continuing education. Complies with all policies, rules, and regulations as set forth by the NCAA, conferences, the athletics department, and Johns Hopkins University. Administrative responsibilities and other duties for the athletic training department as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Performance and Wellness (Head Athletic Trainer).
Key Relationships The Certified Athletic Trainer is directly supervised by the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Performance and Wellness. The position will be a full-time, ten-month appointment, with occasional evening and weekend work required throughout the year, with those dates determined by a supervisor.
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Athletic Training from an accredited athletic training program required Certified Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers’ Board of Certification (NATABOC) (or eligible to become certified by start date of August 1st.) Maryland Licensed Athletic Trainer (or eligible to become licensed in the state of Maryland by date of employment). Familiarity with NCAA governing rules. Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Current CPR/AED Certification. Clinical experience in a collegiate athlete training setting is preferred. Classified Title: Athletic Trainer Role/Level/Range: ACRP/03/MB Starting
