The Residential Care Professional is responsible for implementing treatment plans and ensuring the safety of students at Walden School. They provide supervision and support for emotionally and behaviorally challenged deaf and hard of hearing students during non-school hours.
Candidates should have human service experience and a high school diploma or equivalent. They must demonstrate strong judgment, conflict resolution skills, and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with students.

Walden School is a nationally-recognized residential therapeutic and education program for deaf children and youth ages 8 to 22 who have often experienced significant adverse childhood events as well as language deprivation.

Responsible for implementing treatment plans and for the direct care and safety of the students residing at Walden School.
Provide supervision and support for emotionally and behaviorally challenged deaf and hard of hearing students ages 8-22 years during non-school hours.
Assist with the planning and implementation of daily activities designed to promote personal and social growth.
Assist students with independent living skills and ensure proper personal hygiene and attire.
Encourage participation in extracurricular activities and support students during events such as field trips and outings.
Maintain accurate reports and daily logs while maintaining confidentiality.
Work collaboratively with teachers, clinicians, residential staff, and other support personnel.
Develop and maintain meaningful and supportive relationships with the children in order to promote healing and growth.
Implement strength based clinical plans, behavioral support plans, and crisis intervention, as needed.
Implement Pro-ACT crisis management approaches and skills.
Provide support to students traveling to and from events such as field trips and recreational activities; may be required to drive.
Some lifting and restraints may be required when working with young students or students with special needs, however, TLC embraces and celebrates a spirit of inclusion and diversity, and reasonable accommodations and modifications will be made whenever possible. The diversity of our student population may require that some assignments have a heavier physical responsibility due to safety.
Employees may be asked to occasionally travel, requiring they work outside of their regular hours.
Perform other tasks as assigned by the Department Supervisor and/or Program Leader.

Human Service experience preferred High School Diploma or equivalent preferred Safeguard and maintain confidentiality of all student, staff, and organizational information Demonstrates strong judgment, reliability, and professionalism Ability to write reports, document incidents, and emails Strong conflict resolution skills Ability to maintain appropriate adult / student boundaries Capable of managing crisis situations calmly and effectively Exhibits high levels of patience, empathy, and respect Ability to be trained in and implement Pro-ACT crisis management approaches, including physical restraint, when necessary; skilled in assessing potential issues and utilizing strategies to redirect or de-escalate a student’s behavior Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment A minimum of conversational fluency in American Sign Language required, with native, or near-native ASL fluency preferred ASL classes may be required and are free to employees Must maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record when driving students or performing work-related duties Willingness to transport students in TLC vehicles Must be able and willing to swim with students to provide safe supervision during water activities Perk: Free meals included when on duty
