Job description
The Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for providing a nurturing, engaging, and faith-filled learning environment that supports the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual development of young learners. This position lays the foundation for literacy, numeracy, social skills, and a love of learning while upholding the mission and values of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School and the teachings of the Catholic Church in a safe, structured, and developmentally appropriate classroom setting. This position is for the 2026–2027 school year.
- Essential Functions
- Follow and maintain knowledge of all Archdiocese of Baltimore (AOB) policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans using a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of kindergarten students.
- Design and execute an instructional program that supports the values, ideals, and mission of the Catholic Church and Our Lady of Mount Carmel School while nurturing the whole child academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.
- Create and maintain an organized, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment that fosters curiosity, independence, and a love of learning.
- Actively and safely supervise students at all times, including during instructional and non-instructional periods.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies aligned with PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) protocols and age-appropriate social-emotional learning practices.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with parents regarding classroom expectations, student progress, achievements, and areas for growth through email, phone calls, conferences, and an electronic grade book on a weekly basis.
- Respond to all parent communications in a professional, empathetic, and timely manner.
- Maintain high professional and ethical standards consistent with the mission of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School and the teachings of the Catholic Church, serving as a positive role model of faith, kindness, and character.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, staff, and administration to plan, implement, and evaluate curriculum and instructional programs.
- Integrate Google Workspace (G Suite) for Education and other instructional technologies appropriately to support a 21st-century early childhood learning environment.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the developmental needs, interests, and abilities of all learners in alignment with the established curriculum.
- Attend and actively participate in all faculty meetings, professional development sessions, grade-level meetings, and curriculum meetings.
- Attend open houses, liturgies, and other after-hours school events as requested.
- Serve on school committees as assigned.
- Comply with all applicable AOB, state, local, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
- Perform non-teaching duties as assigned, including recess, lunch, arrival, and dismissal supervision.
- Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or Early Childhood Education
- MSDE teacher certification preferred
- Strong knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate instructional practices
- Experience with foundational literacy and numeracy instruction
- Proficiency in integrating technology appropriately to enhance early learning
- Ability to work collaboratively in a faith-based educational environment
- Employment is Contingent Upon
- Successful completion of state and federal fingerprint background checks
- Completion of VIRTUS Training
