Surgical Technologist

The surgical technologist anticipates the needs of the surgical team, establishes and maintains the sterile field during procedures, and ensures the sterility of all supplies and instruments. Key duties include assisting the circulating nurse, performing counts, gowning surgeons, handling specimens, and managing equipment reprocessing and suite cleaning.

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or ged and have completed an accredited program in surgical technology, requiring certification. While two years of experience is preferred, the role strongly emphasizes participation in an academic teaching environment, assisting in the training of fellows, residents, and medical students.
