Basic purpose

The purpose of this position is to work cooperatively in a team to teach and assist in the creation/maintenance of a safe space for children to learn and grow.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • 1.
  • Daily lesson planning and execution of all classroom and outdoor activities 2.
  • Interact with students and encourage their involvement in activities 3.
  • Establish and maintain good communication with parents 4.
  • Maintain clean and orderly workspace and classroom 5.
  • Supervise child toileting procedures 6.
  • Assist with the setup and cleanup of mealtimes, naptimes and activities 7.
  • Maintain daily student observation records, demonstrating evidence of learning 8.
  • Maintain and build student working folders 9.
  • Provide appropriate and positive discipline 10.
  • Attend staff meetings, training courses and provide training on in-service days 11.
  • Maintain and execute confidential information according to HIPPA standards 12.
  • Maintain a highly detailed and organized filling system 13.
  • Answer phone, handle routine questions and direct calls 14.
  • Utilize harm reduction and trauma informed care principles 15.
  • Maintain a professional image and procedures 16.
  • Complete written documentation of student infractions 17.
  • Check and respond to emails and voicemails on a regular basis 18.
  • Adhere to confidentiality standards 19.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.

Knowledge, skills, abilities and other qualifications requirements

  • Demonstrate experience in Early Childhood education or equivalent 2.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with children in an active environment 3.
  • Understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for infants, toddlers and preschoolers 4.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds 5.
  • Ability to operate under stressful working conditions in a rapidly changing work environment with multiple priorities is required 6.
  • Ability to speak and write the English language at a high and professional level 7.
  • High degree of confidentiality 8.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications Word, Excel and Outlook preferred 9.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 10.
  • Excellent and professional telephone etiquette and presence 11.
  • High degree of organizational skills 12.
  • Approach problem solving creatively 13.
  • Strong ability to utilize a high level of time management and handling multiple tasks

Certificates, licenses, registrations

  • 1.
  • Must possess a high diploma, GED or equivalent 2.
  • Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle 3.
  • Must be 21 years or older 4.
  • Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training 5.
  • Must have a Associate Teacher permit or equivalent 6.
  • Minimum of 12 ECE/CD units completed prior to hire 7.
  • CPR and Mandated Reporter Certificate 8.
  • Must pass Live Scan and other background screenings
