The International Admissions Counselor drives the full international recruitment and admissions cycle for undergraduate and graduate programs by engaging prospective students globally, promoting the university, and guiding them through enrollment. This role also ensures a smooth transition to campus by coordinating arrival support and acts as a Designated School Official (DSO) maintaining strict SEVIS compliance.
A Bachelor's degree is required, along with knowledge of international recruitment practices and strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging diverse global populations. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents due to DSO designation requirements, and experience in international admissions or as a DSO using SEVIS is preferred.
Develop and strengthen strategic global partnerships to expand international student enrollment across undergraduate and graduate programs. Collaborate closely with coaches, colleagues, and partner institutions to maximize yield and ensure a seamless admissions experience for prospective international students. Recruit, advise, and guide prospective international students by promoting programs, explaining admission requirements, and delivering exceptional support throughout the application process. Evaluate international student applications by reviewing academic credentials, calculating GPAs, assessing financial documentation, and issuing timely admission decisions. Provide responsive and professional communication via phone, email, and other platforms to students, families, partners, and coaches. Contribute to the development of innovative recruitment strategies, including recommending new approaches to expand global outreach and enhance marketing visibility. Utilize digital recruitment tools, including social media, online events, international fairs, and presentations to build brand awareness and attract international applicants. Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, using admissions reports and data systems to support decision-making. Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and maintain full compliance with SEVIS requirements and federal regulations. Prepare and process immigration documentation, including issuing Form I-20s in accordance with U.S. Department of Homeland Security guidelines. Represent Indiana Tech locally and internationally by traveling nationally or abroad for recruitment when required Participate in extended travel periods during peak recruitment seasons as needed to support enrollment goals. Stay current with evolving federal regulations and global education trends impacting international student mobility and compliance. Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, using admissions reports and data systems to support decision-making. Assist in designing and implementing the international recruitment plan, contributing insights and strategies that drive enrollment growth. Plan, coordinate, and execute comprehensive orientation programs to ensure a smooth transition for new international students, working collaboratively with team members and campus partners Advise and support current international students to help them maintain F-1 immigration status and navigate compliance requirements. Collaborate with international partner institutions on joint initiatives, projects, and academic pathways. Participate in university committees as assigned, representing international student interests and supporting cross-campus initiatives. Uphold and promote Indiana Tech’s mission, vision, and strategic goals through all aspects of international recruitment and services. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director of International Admissions & Services. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required. Knowledge of international recruitment practices and global education systems. Exceptional communication skills, with creativity and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented team environment. Strong interpersonal skills and cultural competency, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse global populations. Foundational understanding of F-1 visa regulations and international student compliance processes preferred. Spanish language proficiency preferred. Genuine interest in building rapport with prospective and current international students. Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of culturally diverse students and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency required, per ICE regulations for DSO/ARO eligibility. Must meet driving eligibility requirements to operate university vehicles. Experience Two to five years of experience in international admissions or within an international programs office preferred. Demonstrated recruitment or sales experience in higher education, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked directly in international student recruitment. Experience in collaborating with international partner institutions and supporting government-sponsored students is preferred. At least one year of experience as a Designated School Official (DSO) using SEVIS within an international admissions or international programs environment is preferred. Working Conditions Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment, with regular use of computers and professional communication tools. The position also requires occasional domestic and international travel to support recruitment initiatives, partnership development, and student services.
