Description

The lead classroom teacher will provide a safe and nurturing environment for children that encourage and supports social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. The lead teacher will design and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum according to the guidelines established by Creative Beginnings Child Development Center. The teacher will nurture positive relationships with parents, children and colleagues. Also, the teacher will ensure safety and supervision of the children at all times by meeting physical demands of position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide and maintain an environment in which the children may grow physically, emotionally, socially and mentally. Become well acquainted with each child, aware of his needs, and knowledgeable of his family background and home environment. Prepare lesson plans. All plans are to be posted in computer room by Monday morning each week, as well as, posted on the parent board in classroom. The morning is reserved for educational programming. The children are here to participate in a balance of social and academic skills. Daily carry out any responsibilities in planning learning activities to be used in classrooms. Planning and carry out daily teaching programs. Each class and age group has its own curriculum that should focus on the interest and needs of the children in that group. Maintain classroom order, using teaching techniques that are appropriate to the age level. Be prepared. This will include visually monitoring the children in the class and on the playground. Monitor noise level. Interact with children on their plane (sitting on the floor, or in a chair similar in size to theirs). Actively participate in their activities. Record significant incidents and experiences observed, and place in child’s portfolio. Provide Daily Reports on each child with information pertaining to the child’s day and keeping parents informed of upcoming events with your classroom and program. In cooperation with the Director, hold individual conferences with the family of each child as needed (at least bi-annually). Maintain high ethical standards when dealing with children and their families. Keep in mind; information about children and their families is to remain confidential. Attend classes and workshops for the state required minimum 15 hours of yearly training and additional hours as required by the Director. Participate in CPR and First Aid training when required. Teacher will be responsible for maintaining daily attendance totals for food program and serving breakfast, lunch and snack to the children. Be responsible for obtaining (serving) and preparing meals as applicable. Maintain records of meals served each day and return to office as required. Conduct yourself in a professional manner. Keep all matters regarding the children in confidence. Teachers are to attend all parent meetings, programs, conferences, faculty and staff meetings unless excused by the Director. Coordinate the morning and afternoon arrival and departure of children ensuring all children have been signed in/out by parents. Never leave a child unattended!

Qualifications

A minimum of a High School diploma or GED is required. A Commonwealth Child Care Credential, CDA or early childhood education is required. Minimum of 1 year childcare experience is required.
