Job description

Head-Royce School [https://www.headroyce.org/]is seeking a full-time Middle School Spanish teacher to join our team, beginning in August 2026. We seek teachers who are not only excited by the content they teach, but who are also actively engaged in evolving their classroom pedagogy.

Our faculty create classrooms that encourage students to participate in experiential learning, take risks, view the world through multiple lenses, utilize innovative tools, and demonstrate proficiencies through a range of assessments that include real world problems and performances. Beyond the classroom, teachers are expected to take on Upper School duties such as advising as well as to participate in the life of the community.

We seek applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in culturally responsive teaching, a deep understanding of adolescents, and a genuine fondness for working with all students at this specific age level.

  • Skills
  • Experience teaching Spanish at a variety of levels. The ability to teach a heritage oriented Spanish class is a significant plus.
  • Empathetic and clear communicator with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design as well as varied pedagogical approaches including UbD and UDL. In addition, candidates should be familiar with the ACTFL “World-Readiness Standards for Language Learning.
  • Strong speaking, writing, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to participate in an outdoor education trip for three nights (additional stipend paid).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Language and/or Literature or equivalent area of study
  • Fluent or Native Spanish speaker
  • 2 years minimum teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated desire to teach at the high school level.
  • Proven ability to teach a variety of Spanish classes at the high school level.
  • Ability to participate in an outdoor education trip for 3-4 nights (additional stipend paid)
  • Ability to provide proof of Fingerprint, SB 848 and TB clearance.
  • Additional Qualifications (preferred, not required)
  • Advanced degrees/certification are desirable in Spanish or Spanish education.
