The teacher is responsible for preparing and administering a curriculum or an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each student, ensuring weekly plans are ready by Monday morning and that IEP goals are monitored according to schedule. Candidates must possess a Single A teaching license from the State of MS and are preferred to have two academic years of teaching experience, though an advanced degree and AA license may substitute for experience. A Master’s in Special Education and experience with emotionally disturbed children are preferred, and the AA 206 Emotionally Disability license must be obtained within three years if hired for special education classes.
Canopy has been designated a Great Place to Work® for the fifth consecutive year, and is one of only eight companies in Mississippi to qualify for this certification in 2024-2025. Canopy’s employees are charged with building a healthy work culture within their teams, that focus on trust, and the collective goal of helping kids thrive and families to overcome extraordinary challenges.
Market context
Special education teachers are typically in steady demand in Mississippi school settings, especially for programs serving students with emotional and behavioral needs. This role is competitive because it requires a Mississippi Single A teaching license, and candidates with a Master’s in Special Education or an AA license may be considered in place of experience. Review the AI-summarized requirements and benefits here to save research time, then confirm your licensure status and highlight any experience with emotionally disturbed children in your application.
