Job description
- Join our Summer School Age Program as a one on one Summer Counselor!
- In this unique support role, you’ll be paired with an elementary student to help guide them through their daily activities at camp.
- You will play a key role in the Summer Day Camp Counseling team, who aim to create a positive, engaging experience for all — while supporting your camper with transitions between enrichment activities, physical play, field trips, healthy meals, and social interaction.
- Our full-day program is based in the elementary schools in the La Crosse, Onalaska, and Holmen school districts.

Responsibilities
Facilitate fun and engaging group activities such as games, sports, swimming, arts and crafts, field trips, and STEM activities
Build relationships with elementary kids and families
Ensure supervision and safety of participants
Provide mentorship and maintain behavior expectations for elementary kids using positive guidance techniques
Ensure healthy meals and snacks are distributed daily as part of the Y’s Youth Food Program
Hours and Locations: Positions available beginning May, 40 hours per week during the summer
8.5 hour shifts Monday-Friday between 6 am and 6 pm
Summer Counselors will work on-site at an elementary school in the La Crosse, Onalaska, or Holmen school districts
Requirements
At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or at least 16 years of age with additional training provided CPR certification within 3 months of hire date Some child development courses or experience preferred Reliability and clear communication Able to work effectively in a team
