Job Description
The Department of Human Performance at Minnesota State University, Mankato invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track (probationary) position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 18, 2026. We seek a dynamic educator to teach and advise in our undergraduate Health, Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education programs. The successful candidate should have a Doctorate or terminal degree in Physical Education, School Health Education, or Adapted Physical Education or closely related field, conferred on an official transcript by August 10, 2026. The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years teaching in PK-12 schools as an instructor of record with at least one year in physical education, school health or adapted physical education. The successful candidate should have demonstrated the ability to teach in two of the three focus areas of physical education, health education or adapted physical education. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate teacher education courses in physical education, health education, and/or adapted physical education. Potentially teaching other courses in the Department of Human Performance and College of Allied Health and Nursing based on department needs. This position will also advise undergraduate majors in health, physical education and adapted physical education programs A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year. The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified. May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university’s additional locations, as assigned. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities. All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement). This position will advise undergraduate majors in health, physical education and adapted physical education programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate teacher education courses in physical education, health education, and/or adapted physical education. Potentially other courses in the Department of Human Performance and College of Allied Health and Nursing based on department needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens, including social justice and/or anti-racism, to the role. Doctorate or terminal degree in Physical Education, School Health Education, or Adapted Physical Education or closely related field, conferred on an official transcript by August 10, 2026. A minimum of three years teaching in PK-12 schools as an instructor of record with at least one year in physical education, school health or adapted physical education. Demonstrated excellence in teaching college or university-level courses within physical education, health education, adapted physical education or closely related field. Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position, including social justice and/or anti-racism. Preferred Qualification Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment. Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills. Teacher licensure in physical education, school health education or adapted physical education. Demonstrated ability to teach in two of the three focus areas of physical education, health education or adapted physical education. Demonstrated preparation to teach, advise, and support a wide variety of students. Demonstrated ability to initiate and sustain active partnerships with schools and community organizations. Demonstrated ability to develop/maintain an active research/scholarship agenda. Demonstrated ability to work with faculty and staff in a collegial and cooperative manner. Demonstrated commitment to department activities and university service.
