Job Summary

  • The College of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor (12MO), Tenure-Track. The successful candidate will:
  • Implement the College's philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes, and course objectives through expert teaching.
  • Assume responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching assignments.
  • Use innovative, active learning strategies in the classroom and beyond.
  • Plan clinical and simulation experiences for and provides direct supervision and evaluation of students delivering nursing care, as needed.
  • Serve as Academic Advisor for students.
  • Evaluate and provide documented feedback on student's performance.
  • Grade homework, quizzes, tests, lab assignments, clinical paperwork and other written work in a timely manner.
  • Be available for remediation of students as required or needed.
  • Orient and maintain current knowledge related to agency/clinical policies and procedures.
  • Report to the Executive Vice Dean.
  • Direct research of students working for advanced academic degrees.
  • Mentor students in evidence-based research and scholarship.
  • Conduct research and publishes findings in professional journals.
  • Develop a program of research.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in Nursing or equivalent.
  • New York State Registered Nurse and/or Nurse Practitioner License.
  • 4-years of teaching experience in academia.
  • 3 to 5 years of clinical practice experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of current scholarship.
  • Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training.

Work Schedule: Variable Days; Variable Hours (Full-Time)

Salary Grade/Rank

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
