Position Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Swim Instructors create a safe and welcoming environment for participants while instructing and motivating students.

Essential functions

Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA training and curriculum. Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.). Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedure, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment. Actively participates in department and branch meetings and/or trainings. Performs other duties as assigned.

At least 15 years of age Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards Complete Trainings: YMCA cause & culture training; Aquatics-specific training, including CPR/AED & First Aid training, if needed; Child Abuse Prevention Training (provided by the YMCA) Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check
