The Assistant Softball Coach must be committed to the Lordship of Christ. This not only means having the correct intellectual belief, but it also involves a radical transformation in every area of one’s lifestyle. The Coach must continually seek opportunities to grow and possess strong character traits through the regular practicing of the spiritual disciplines (e.g., prayer, meditation, Bible reading) and develop ministry values that express what God can do in impacting student athletes with whom they interact.
At Indiana Wesleyan, we believe that we have the opportunity and responsibility to disciple and mentor student-athletes as they seek to grow in their faith in Jesus Christ. The sport we coach creates the environment where that discipleship is possible. In recent years, our Athletic Department has embraced an idea called the “Both/And” mentality in which we believe we can pursue both excellence in our sport AND excellence in our relationship with Jesus Christ without having to make sacrifices in either one. The ideal candidate will align with and have a desire to learn and embrace this mentality in their life and work.
According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
IWU, in covenant with God's reconciling work and in accordance with the Biblical principles of our historic Wesleyan tradition, commits to build a community that reflects Kingdom diversity. We will foster an intentional environment for living, teaching and learning, which exhibits honor, respect, and dignity. Acknowledging visible or invisible differences, our community authentically values each member's earthly and eternal worth. We refute ignorance and isolation and embrace deliberate and courageous engagement that exhibits Christ's commandment to love all humankind.
As a religious educational institution operating under the auspices of The Wesleyan Church, Indiana Wesleyan University is permitted and reserves the right to prefer employees on the basis of religion (42 U.S.C., Sections 2000e-1 and 2000e-2).
