Career Consultant – Summer Youth Work Experience (SYWE)

About the Role

At Goodwill Columbus, our team supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disability needs as they build skills, confidence, and meaningful connections in their community. As a Career Consultant in the Summer Youth Work Experience program, you will provide hands-on job coaching and career guidance to Youth ages 16–21 with diagnosed disability needs. This Summer Youth position is designed for individuals with previous experience in disability services who are available to work for the summer. You will support Youth as they learn workplace skills, explore career interests, and succeed in real job settings. Through individualized disability support, you’ll help Summer Youth participants grow toward greater independence. Our Values in Action We believe work changes lives. What You’ll Do As a Summer Youth Career Consultant, you will work directly with Youth ages 16–18+ who have diagnosed disabilities, supporting skill development and workplace success. Key responsibilities include: Providing daily, on-site job coaching for a small group of students, each with a diagnosed disability. Teaching and modeling workplace skills such as communication, teamwork, punctuality, and problem-solving Supporting Youth with disability-related needs as they explore strengths, interests, and future goals Partnering with employers, families, and program staff to support successful Summer Youth placements Implementing individualized disability support strategies in real job settings Tracking attendance and job coaching notes using simple digital tools What We’re Looking For We are seeking candidates with previous disability services experience who are committed to working Summer-only with Youth with disabilities. Qualifications include: Prior experience in disability services (direct support, job coaching, vocational rehabilitation, education, or community integration) Experience working with Youth with diverse disability support needs Availability for the full Summer Youth program Compassion, patience, and reliability Comfort working in community-based employment settings Willingness to learn and accept coaching Valid Ohio driver’s license and insurance CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Why You’ll Like Working at Goodwill Columbus Pay: $19.00–$19.50 per hour Meaningful Summer Youth work supporting individuals with disabilities Training and ongoing support Supportive, people-centered team environment
