  • Range: $67,567.00 - $158,280.00 Salary/yearThe School Counselor at CHSLSJ plays a critical role in supporting students' academic, social-emotional, and postsecondary development. The Counselor ensures alignment with the school’s mission of preparing students for success in college, careers, and civic life. Essential Responsibilities Assist students with academic course selection and scheduling Monitor student academic progress and design academic improvement plans Support students in developing effective study habits and time management skills Collaborate with teachers to support student learning and address academic concerns Provide guidance on college selection, applications, and admissions processes Support students in exploring post-secondary options including vocational training and military pathways Assist with financial aid, scholarship applications, and FAFSA completion Coordinate college fairs, visits, and career exploration events Provide individual and group counseling for personal, emotional, or social concerns Address bullying, peer conflicts, and behavioral issues through intervention and support Promote mental health awareness schoolwide and refer students to external services when needed. Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment Respond to student crises including mental health emergencies, abuse, or trauma Collaborate with parents, staff, and community services during critical situations Develop and implement safety plans when appropriate Maintain accurate student records and documentation of services provided Serve on school leadership and student support teams Participate in IEP/504 meetings and assist in developing academic accommodations Communicate regularly with families, teachers, and administrators Design and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with ASCA standards Collect and analyze data to assess program effectiveness Advocate for policies and practices that support student well-being and achievement Knowledge and skills Able to work independently and in a self-reliant manner Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times, stressful environment. Ability to turn best practices into high-quality, goal-driven results Displays effective time management skills Experience with data management tools, organizational tools, and computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Possesses strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills to communicate with a varied audience Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
