- Date: August 2026 Maclay School seeks an engaging, student-centered educator to teach Social Studies. The ideal candidate is intellectually rigorous and highly relational. They help students develop strong historical thinking by asking meaningful questions, analyzing complex sources, and connecting past events to the present. Key Responsibilities Design and facilitate engaging, inquiry-driven social studies lessons that emphasize active reading, thinking, and writing Help students develop strong historical thinking skills, including analyzing information and forming well-supported conclusions Integrate primary and secondary sources to deepen student understanding and promote evidence-based reasoning Create assessments that measure student understanding through writing, discussion, and performance tasks, not just recall Foster a classroom culture that encourages curiosity, respectful dialogue, and intellectual risk-taking Differentiate instruction to support a range of learners and provide multiple entry points into complex content Communicate effectively with students and families, providing clear feedback and maintaining strong partnerships Engage fully in the life of the school, including serving as a student advisor, leading or supporting student activities or clubs, and contributing to a collaborative, professional culture QualificationsQualifications Bachelor’s degree in History or a related field required; advanced degree preferred At least three years of teaching experience at the secondary level preferred Demonstrated ability to design and facilitate discussion-based, inquiry-driven classrooms Strong writing instruction background, with the ability to support analytical and argumentative writing Commitment to student-centered teaching and ongoing professional growth Collaborative mindset and interest in contributing to a cohesive academic program Physical Requirements and ADA Statement This role requires regular movement between classrooms and buildings, active engagement in classroom instruction, and the ability to navigate indoor and outdoor school environments. The position also requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, communicate clearly, operate standard classroom technology, and occasionally lift materials up to 20–30 pounds.
