  • Overview:KIPP NYC Special Education Teachers work closely both as a team and with General Education Teachers to plan targeted, high-leverage interventions for their students. Our Special Education Teachers seek first to diagnose student challenges and then to design individual programs and differentiated strategies to meet specific needs. The team serves students with IEPs and diagnosed disabilities, as well as with students who are identified as at-risk.

Duties and Responsibilities

General responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Teaching a rigorous college preparatory curriculum which combines the school’s standards and the New York State standardsTeaching students in a high-quality, exciting wayCommitting to constant professional and personal growth through working closely as part of a team of teachersUsing data to drive decisionsConstantly assessing student progress, and communicating results to families and colleaguesProviding individual or small group instruction for students who need additional assistanceModeling a “whatever it takes” spirit to ensure that each student is successful.Modeling the school’s values in all communications with students, families, and staffQualificationsStrong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collegial working environment and a healthy measure of the character traits we value: zest, grit, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor.At least two years of teaching experience is strongly preferredNew York State Special Education teacher certification is highly recommended Bachelor’s degree requiredA passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school cultureA strong desire to become a better teacher by joining the KIPP NYC team and familyDemonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of students from the communities KIPP NYC servesAdditional InformationCompensation and Benefits:KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $70,829 - $136,704. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role, NYS initial or professional certification, and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP NYC will evaluate a candidate’s years of experience, certification, and longevity at the point of hire to determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale.KIPP NYC offers a generous benefits package, including, but not limited to, the following: Robust benefits include medical, dental, and vision. Generous time off, including 5 school vacation weeks, sick and personal days, and an extended summer break. Up to 12 weeks of 100% parental leave. Bright Horizon Back-up Child and Elder Care.Employer-paid Life Insurance and Short-term/Long-term disability.Employee incentives include an 8-week paid Sabbatical after 10 years, annual professional development funds, and tuition reimbursement.
