Job Title: Upper School Psychologist or Social Worker
Department: Student Support Services
Dwight-Englewood School, the largest independent school in Bergen County, NJ, and a growing, vibrant, and diverse learning community in the New York City metro area, is seeking to fill an Upper School Psychologist or Social Worker position.
As a member of the Student Support Team, the psychologist or social worker will work to address the social-emotional needs of students. Ideal candidates have strong crisis intervention skills and can provide research-based approaches to counseling (ACT, CBT, DBT experience preferred). Candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills and express a desire to become part of the school community.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide support to students to address the social-emotional issues that impact their school day.
- Serve as a resource for teachers and deans by offering psychological insight to better understand and support students.
- Serve as a member of the Student Support Team to identify ways to address student needs.
- Collaborate with families by offering guidance and connecting them with appropriate outside providers and evaluators.
Specific Duties
- Provide short-term individual counseling to students.
- Provide referrals and resources to families to address social-emotional concerns.
- Participate in Student Support Team (SST) meetings to discuss students and to identify strategies to address individual needs.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, deans, and administrators in order to support students.
- Collaborate with outside service providers in order to create a consistent program for individual students.
- Observe students in class to develop accommodations and support.
- Interpret neuropsychological evaluations and develop learning profiles for students that communicate student needs and appropriate classroom accommodations.
- Teach two to three sections of Mental Health Seminar, a class designed for 10th grade students to learn about psychology and practice strategies for strengthening their mental health.
- Work with faculty to further develop an understanding of the developmental and social-emotional needs of Upper School students.
- Participate in the life of the Upper School community as well as whole school initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The ideal candidate will have a certificate or license in psychology, school psychology or clinical social work and previous experience in a school setting. Training and experience in research-based approaches to therapy is preferred.
Supervision for permit-holders obtaining a license in psychology is available on-site.
Terms of Employment
- This is a four (80%) day a week, 10 month position. Must be available to work on Thursdays.
- Standard work hours are 8am to 4pm. Professional days are considered work days, and participation in planned activities is mandatory
- Salaries are based on years of experience and education level. The salary range for this position is 90-100K.
