Reports To Special Education Coordinator Work Year Days 195 Salary Teacher Pay Scale plus Stipend: https://www.friscoisd.org/employment/compensation Primary Purpose The SPED Instructional and Behavior Specialist is responsible for supporting the implementation of special education services and supports directly to campuses. Staff will guide campus administrators, teachers, and staff in best practices and District guidance with regards to special education service implementation, instructional and behavior supports, program management, and legal compliance.
Education/Certification:Bachelor’s DegreeValid Texas teaching certificate in special education Valid Texas teaching content certificate, or Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) preferred CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training/Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training or willingness to be trained Special Knowledge/Skills: Working knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), Section 504, special education, and latest pedagogy when working with students who demonstrate behavioral and academic deficits Specialized training in behavior intervention strategies for all students Depth of knowledge in instructional strategies and PreK-12 grade level TEKS Specialized training and understanding of identifying deficits and related recommendations in the FIE to support appropriate IEP development Ability to professionally and effectively communicate and collaborate with campus and District entities to improve student, teacher, and campus outcomes Experience delivering professional learning individually, and in small or large groups Ability to work independently and collaboratively Experience: Minimum of 3 years teaching experience or related experience preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties Campus Support: Train, facilitate, and/or coach staff on the implementation of quality special education programming, specialized instructional/behavioral resources, and research-based instructional/behavioral strategies, including instructional resources, progress monitoring, and data collection. Support and guide campus staff in the development of specially designed instructional/behavioral strategies/interventions to address loss of student learning or behavioral progress. Provide specialized training in determining behavior functions, identifying evidence-based behavior interventions, and developing behavior intervention plans. Participate in the student support process to recommend interventions and/or determine necessity and scope of referral for Full and Individual Evaluation. Provision of Services: Model direct instruction with special education students to improve behavior, individually or in small groups, in order to build capacity of staff. Develop behavioral interventions and/or instructional strategies, equipment, and/or educational aids to promote maximum student independence. Write initial Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and train teachers on implementation. Consult with the Transportation Department regarding the behavior of students on buses.Assist teachers in the development of classroom systems, such as: creating master schedules, establishing instructional arrangements, collecting and interpreting data, and lesson planning.Develop and/or participate in professional learning tailored to the needs of the campus and/or to support District initiatives. Collaborate with appropriate campus and District staff on recommended interventions, instructional strategies, equipment, and/or educational aids to promote maximum student independence. Support and guide campus staff in the development of IEP goals and objectives for students receiving special education services. Maintain data and records needed to support districtwide special education programming and funding decisions. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD)/Individualized Education Program (IEP)/Manifestation Determination Review (MDR) meetings as needed.
Communicate information to local school personnel in a timely, professional, and productive manner. Maintain a positive, professional, and effective relationship with supervisors, administrators, educators, staff, students, and parents. Promote communication and professional growth of instructional coaches and liaisons through campus visits and professional learning opportunities at local school and District level. Use effective verbal and written communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues. Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and school information and records.
