Job description

We utilize a flexible service delivery model

Salary Range: $51,500- $78,000

Pay within this range is based on experience and education

Essential duties and responsibilities

General Professionalism

  • Demonstrates sensitivity and cultural diversity of others.

  • Fully engages in educational, behavioral, and clinical services to ensure that all students are receiving an appropriate and complete educational program.
  • Provides safe, attractive, organized, functional, healthy, and clean clinical environments for students.
  • Adheres to professional, ethical, and legal standards of Speech Language Pathology practice including maintaining appropriate State Licensure and other credentials.

  • Trials, recommends, and implements augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems, ensuring students can communicate effectively throughout their day.
  • Provides on-going consultation, training, and support for classroom staff to carry over therapeutic programs and communication systems.
  • Works cooperatively with team members in the evaluation and development of prescriptive feeding programs designed to improve oral feeding skills.
  • Makes thoughtful referrals to related professionals (medical, audiology, swallow studies, equipment specialists, etc.) in collaboration with families and team members.
  • Attends various discipline related meetings and inservices (e.g. team meetings, department meetings, program meetings, staff trainings, professional development days.)
  • Works closely with families and caregivers to ensure strong carryover at home.
  • Works cooperatively with the interdisciplinary team responsible for coordinating and implementing goals and recommendations for each student.
  • Participates in the design, modification and/or maintenance of assistive technology equipment or devices (e.g. switches, mounts, speech generating devices)
  • Maintains written documentation in accordance with departmental and agency regulations.
  • Understands the psychological, social and medical characteristics of the population served by the Agency.
  • Provides clinical instruction for future therapists according to each college's requirements and the Speech Therapy department student guidelines.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    • Master's degree (M.A., M.S. or M.S.
    • Ed) in Speech Language Pathology.
    • Requires New York State licensure (or in pursuit of licensure-Clinical Fellow).
    • Prior experience is desirable, but not necessary.
    • New York State certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) is required for Clinical Fellows and preferred for licensed SLPs.
    • American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) is preferred.

    Other skills and abilities

    Must be able to complete certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.

    Certificates, licenses, registrations

    Must have or be in pursuit of New York State Speech Language Pathology licensure. Must complete requirements to maintain ongoing licensure.
