Job description

Position overview

The tutor will work with justice-involved youth, providing academic support, mentoring, and guidance to help them achieve their educational goals in order to provide a successful reintegration back into the community. This role involves fostering a positive learning environment, building rapport with youth, and tailoring instructional strategies to meet their individual needs. The tutor will collaborate with other professionals and organizations involved in the youth's rehabilitation and support, working towards their academic advancement and personal growth. Must have ability to be flexible and adapt to work within different educational settings, including detention facilities, alternative programs, and community-based environments.

Position qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related field (equivalent work experience may be considered).
  • Previous experience working with justice-involved youth, preferably in an educational or mentoring capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of academic subjects, instructional strategies, and learning assessment techniques.
  • Ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships with justice-involved youth, demonstrating empathy, patience, and understanding.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of diverse individuals.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work within different educational settings, including detention facilities, alternative programs, and community-based environments.
  • Knowledge of the challenges and barriers faced by justice-involved youth and a commitment to promoting their educational success and reintegration.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Must be able to clear a background check in order to be on site at the designated facilities.
  • Must be a team player and have the ability to work independently.
  • Must be able to work some weekends and or evenings.
